Music, Memories, and a Bias Card: My K-pop Journey
One of my favorite hobbies is following K-pop, and lately, I’ve really been into a group called BOYNEXTDOOR. They’re a six-member group, and what makes them even more relatable to me is that the members are around my age. Out of all the members, my bias is Taesan.

I unboxed the album with my friends who are also big fans of BOYNEXTDOOR, and it was such a fun experience. We tried to open it quickly because we were all so eager to see what was inside, but it ended up taking much longer than we expected. We couldn’t stop screaming and freaking out over all the photos. They looked incredible! Every time we flipped through the pages, someone would shout in excitement. The best part was I got my bias Taesan’s photo card! We all started jumping around and celebrating together. The whole experience made me appreciate being part of the K-pop fan even more.
To my surprise, BOYNEXTDOOR’s comeback date was on the exact same day as the first day of school, which turned out to be a huge relief for me. Normally, going back to school brings a lot of anxiety and stress, but knowing their comeback was happening that day really brightened things up.
When the music video dropped on YouTube, I was actually at my part-time job at the cram school. I couldn’t wait, so I snuck into the restroom to watch the entire video in secret. As soon as I hit play, the upbeat vibe of the song and the lyrics instantly shifted my mood. It was like all the stress melted away in a second. Moments like that make being a fan so special, and it’s amazing how music can instantly change my mindset!

When the Typhoon Hits: Typhoon Krathon's Impact
Except for the good news, there was a really bad typhoon happened in early October. Typhoon Krathon hit southern Taiwan, especially Kaohsiung, causing a lot of damage and leaving my hometown in chaos. Initially, the typhoon stood still on the sea, barely moving, which made me think it was weak and wouldn’t cause much trouble. I even went home excitedly, ready to enjoy what I thought would be a relaxing, extended typhoon holiday. But I was wrong. The next morning, I woke up to the sound of fierce winds, and what I thought might be a barrel from my neighbor banging against the walls. I pulled back the curtains to see what was going on, and I was shocked. The roads were littered with leaves, branches, and even bits of metal debris.

Listening BOYNEXTDOOR's new album while out of internet connection!
At first, I wasn’t too worried, I figured all I needed was a safe place to stay and, of course, a stable internet connection. But things took a turn for the worse later in the afternoon. There was a loud noise, like something had fallen or exploded nearby, and then, suddenly, the power went out. I was about to complain on Instagram, but then I realized… my internet was also down! At that moment, all I could do was laugh at the situation. It had been so long since I experienced being without internet, and I had to figure out something new to do. Surprisingly, the whole experience turned out better than expected. My family and I spent the time chatting by candlelight, and we even made a pot of delicious congee in the dark. It ended up being a memorable time, despite the chaos outside.

Although the typhoon passed quickly, it left behind significant damage, with many street trees uprooted and some even crashing into people’s homes and vehicles. It was heartbreaking to see the destruction it caused, especially in such a short amount of time. Thankfully, the recovery efforts were swift, and much of the damage was addressed quickly. While it’s sad to witness such losses, it’s a relief that the situation was handled efficiently.
